Opportunity: Training Specialist

Opportunity Overview

SD Solutions seeks a Training Specialist (TS) in a federal contractor position to join our team in support of a contract project with a component of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). NOTE: You MUST HAVE training coordination or similar training role experience, preferably with the U.S. government as either a federal employee or in a contractor role to be considered for this position. The TS will primarily focus on staff training coordination, help manage the smooth and effective functioning of designated training programs, and ensuring those programs meet all client directed requirements. This involves some marketing, planning, execution of ongoing and tailored training programs, tracking of certifications and trainings completed, and assistance in planning and facilitating specialized training programs for client staff. The TS will also be responsible for the implementation of a planned training schedule and any changes or updates to that schedule, as well as detailed editing and correction of produced content. This position is located in Indianapolis, IN and is currently remote but may be required to return to the office one or more days per week. Thus, you must be able to commute to Indianapolis, IN if necessary.

Note that this position is not currently open and its availability is contingent upon our receipt of a pending government contract award.

Responsibilities Include

  • Ensure all personnel obtain their required and otherwise signed-up-for training
  • Coordinate solicitation of training requests and submission for leadership prioritization and approval
  • Work with Operations, Subject Matter Experts, and other key stakeholders to identify target audience training needs
  • Ability to assist senior staff in the analysis and improvement of the division's training framework and strategy (resource allocation, selection criteria, career progression paths, etc.)
  • Create training materials such as case studies, Master Scenario Events List (MSELs), PowerPoint presentations, eLearning modules, manuals, roll call and handouts
  • Review training materials for accuracy and standards compliance, and ability to develop and publish policy guidance, particularly regarding safety related training
  • Maintain training documents and records, monitor compliance with CBP mandatory trainings, guide certification process for PMO employees
  • Develop and maintain policies and SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures)
  • Maintain a core level of daily duty functional practice to provide training insights to management and assist in the construction and implementation of new training projects and opportunities
  • Perform other related duties as required

Requirements Overview

  • MUST HAVE training coordination or similar training role experience, with a preference for those with experience as a federal employee or federal contractor
  • A Bachelor's degree is required
  • 3 or more years of directly relevant training experience
  • Have a training background with experience in training design, tracking and reporting, and delivery
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office - SharePoint, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Prefer experience with PowerBI
  • Good administrative skills and the ability to put together and execute the components of the training program, especially its different components - mandatory training, discretionary training, National Training Plan (NTP), and group courses, etc.
  • Ability to take initiative and be proactive without waiting for direction
  • Ability to cultivate and maintain meaningful relationships with several key stakeholders across the federal group
  • Ability to clearly communicate complex information and to effectively motivate small and large groups
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a CBP suitability

Superstar Qualifications

  • Experience in the use of different development methodologies
  • Experience managing training strategies and programs for large nationally disbursed teams; this DHS client has two specific training audiences - everyone (for mandatory, discretionary, their group, etc.) and the those eligible for NTP-sponsored training
  • Be flexible and deal with change in a rapid, evolving climate
  • Passionate about the customer experience; never settle for good enough, and continually inspire others to do better for the customer
  • Have excellent public speaking and verbal communication skills in a corporate environment
  • Willingness to work in different areas as required by training needs
  • Candidates must be very organized and able to handle multiple and changing projects/priorities
  • Knowledge of learning management systems and E- learning tools
  • Experience delivering Virtual Training or working with remote teams or some DHS component training and development experience
  • Hold a current, active DHS Public Trust suitability background investigation clearance
  • Experience working within the government
