*Position Purpose:*To support ongoing research in the van der Meer Lab.
*Required Qualifications - Education and Yrs Exp:*Bachelors or equivalent combination of education and experience
*Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:*
* Bachelor's degree with a major in a relevant discipline (for instance, Neuroscience, Psychology, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science)
* One year of laboratory/research experience in neuroscience or a related field
*Skills and Knowledge*
* Ability to learn quickly from direct mentoring, from observation, and from self-reflection.
* Competent in laboratory methods, procedures and techniques related to behavioral and neural recording experiments in rodents.
* Experience with computer programming in MATLAB or Python.
* Good judgment in monitoring data quality.
* Organizational skills to manage laboratory inventory and records.
* Communicates respectfully with a diverse community.
* Ability to work independently and apply critical thinking and sound judgment.
* Good time management skills.

*Description:**Research/Experiments*
* Performs rodent experiments, including but not limited to: behavioral training, stereotaxic surgery, and recording of neural signals
* Constructs electrodes and optical fibers for neural recording.
* Processes collected data using established analysis pipelines.
* Identifies, troubleshoots, and corrects or recommends solutions to problems associated with experimental methods, procedures, and techniques; or equipment and facilities.
* Adheres to laboratory safety requirements including general and chemical/hazardous waste safety disposal methods.
* Training in the above will be provided by senior lab personnel.

*Description:**Laboratory Management*
* Monitors work in progress to ensure accomplishment is timely and in accordance with reasonable methods and standards.
* Manages stock levels of lab consumables and helps organize lab space.
* Assists in the maintenance of rat/mouse colonies including handling and weighing of animals, managing breeding pairs, and entering data into spreadsheets.

* Maintains laboratory records of procedures.
* Applies sound data management procedures, such as following naming conventions and backing up acquired data to secure locations.
* Helps manage lab protocols.
