Together, we advocate for systemic change and work tirelessly to create a better life for people impacted by the trauma of homelessness.Want to Know More, Keep Reading!The Staff Accountant plays a critical role in maintaining the financial integrity of Family Promise of Tualatin Valley (FPTV) and reports directly to the Director of Finance. This position is responsible for the full cycle of accounts payable and receivable, general ledger maintenance, grant reporting, and document management in support of timely, accurate financial reporting. The Staff Accountant supports FPTVs mission through sound financial practices and by helping staff navigate accounting responsibilities with clarity and compassion.The Staff Accountant upholds FPTVs core values of Kindness, Accountability, Stewardship, Dignity, and Empowerment, with a particular emphasis on accountability and stewardship. Operating with a high level of independence within FPTVs system of financial controls, the Staff Accountant also engages in collaborative financial discussions, including journal entry review, cost allocations, and audit preparations. Recognizing that not all staff bring a financial background, the Staff Accountant supports others fiscal responsibilities with approachability, patience, and professionalism.Required Qualifications:Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field; equivalent professional experience may substitute for formal education on a year-for-year basisMinimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in bookkeeping or full-cycle accounting, preferably in a multi-fund environmentDemonstrated experience with QuickBooks Online, including processing payables/receivables, reconciling accounts, and managing journal entriesIntermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including use of formulas, pivot tables, and reconciliation functionsProficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, SharePoint), with the ability to effectively manage documents and collaborate across departmentsFamiliarity with general accounting principles and practices, including GAAP and accrual-based accountingAbility to organize and maintain accurate financial records and documentation in compliance with internal controls and retention policiesStrong sense of accountability, integrity, and confidentiality in handling sensitive financial dataAbility to work independently and manage competing deadlines with accuracy and attention to detailCommitment to upholding FPTVs values of Kindness, Accountability, Stewardship, Dignity, and Empowerment in all interactions and responsibilitiesDesired QualificationsBachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related fieldExperience working in a nonprofit organization, particularly with grant-funded programs or public funding streamsKnowledge of cost allocation plans, restricted/unrestricted fund tracking, and nonprofit fund accounting best practicesFamiliarity with state and federal grant reimbursement systems, including preparation of supporting documentation and online portal submissionPrior involvement in external audits, including preparation of schedules, reconciliations, and document requestsStrong communication and interpersonal skills; able to translate financial concepts to non-financial colleagues in a clear and supportive wayDemonstrated ability to contribute to process improvements and participate in cross-functional team effortsComfortable working in a collaborative, mission-driven environment, balancing autonomy with accountability to a broader organizational teamPay Scale: $32-38/hr., DOEWork Hours: This is a part-time, non-exempt position. Typical work hours are Monday through Friday, between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., or as scheduled by the Director of Finance. The position may involve periods of independent work as well as collaboration with team members. Occasional remote work or off-site meetings may be required. While standard hours are observed, flexibility in scheduling may be needed during peak reporting periods, audits, or other organizational priorities.
